When I left school at the tender age of 16, I got my first ever full time job within the motor trade in Edinburgh with a prestige car manufacturer…..being thrown in at the deep end in the motor trade was definitely an eye opener for me. I learned words I didn’t know even existed and not in a good way. The motor trade is notorious for bad language, pushy salesmen and an overall lack of personal values. As I say, I was very lucky to work with a prestige car manufacturer, where brand and values were at the forefront of their company. It was a fantastic opportunity which gave me a great foundation for my career.
In 2009, I decided to re-evaluate my career, which would mean a massive career change, ultimately leading me to my first position within Facilities Management. However, not before I had paid my way through College and achieved an HND in Make-up Artistry, something I am very proud of achieving. Even now, I still get involved with photoshoots, marketing campaigns and even the odd Wedding day – now that can be stressful.
At the time, my two friends were working for a National Facilities Management company. They had some fantastic stories about the company, the people and the variety of work. When a role came up as a Marketing Assistant, I grabbed the chance with both hands. It was the best thing that has ever happened to me.
Over the following years, my career has taken me from that role, to Marketing Manager. Then, three different Facilities Management companies with very different outlooks, to my new role as International Helpdesk Manager.
I have been privileged to work within a SME environment, a Venture Capitalist backed organisation and finally through to my current role working as a key member of the Simply Solutions team.
I have been at Simply Solutions for 4 years now and I really enjoy the challenge. It’s fair to say that I work within a company which not only believes in the service that they deliver, but are passionate about being better. Don’t get me wrong, it is a very dynamic environment and there are always a few bad days, but the great thing about the team is that we all support each other and that is something which I am extremely proud of.
We have a strong, established client base, where a lot of our clients have become friend’s more than just clients.
As I move into my new role within the Company, I am keen to add value to what we are currently providing. Items such as; customer service, quality of reporting and getting a better understanding of what makes each of our valued clients different, are on my agenda to improve.
At Simply Solutions we embrace a philosophy of “Simply Better” which as the tagline suggests, means that we will never become complacent, we will always challenge the status quo and look to think outside the box.
It is going to be an interesting adventure over the next few years. I can’t wait to get started………..
